Murder by any definition involves killing; however, there are varying degrees of murder in Colorado:
- First-degree murder is deliberate and pre-meditated killing.
- Second-degree murder is knowingly causing the death of another person.
- Manslaughter is causing the death of another through reckless action or by assisting another person to commit suicide.

Other violent offenses include kidnapping, rape, car jacking, robbery, assault, battery, and drug trafficking, to name a few.
Examples of state felonies are crimes such as murder, rape, child abuse, molestation, fraud, sex crimes, drug transportation, drug sales/distribution, domestic violence, assault and battery, robbery, theft, controlled substance possession, embezzlement and white-collar crime.
